how I'm trying my best to code

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

With the global pandemic comes unemployment.

Or

You may have quit your job just before March... Like me.

If you also have the worst timing this side of the 20th Century, then you'll be looking for things to do that will make you more marketable to employers.

upskilling is the answer!

I've finished my Masters diploma in Graphic Design already, but what good is digital design without some basic coding knowledge?

I like trying to learn new languages so some coding seemed like a good way to get ahead.

So, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript it is.

I have to admit I'm not that new to html, but I've definitely never been fluent. I had some <h1> </h1> and <p></p> stored away, but I really didn't know much more than that...

  • So far, I'm using https://www.codecademy.com/. They have a free program that is easy to follow, and it is simple to test out yourself. (Plus, you get little medal badges as you go!)

  • If, like me, nothing makes sense until you do it yourself then I would also download Visual Studio Code. https://code.visualstudio.com/

  • On top of that, YouTube is full of amazing tutorials from companies like Udemy. Try out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bMdjkfvONE and follow Jordan Hudgens to construct a website from scratch

all of the above are all free!

I've so far made my own site using HTML, CSS & JavaScript and keep logging in every day to codeacdemy.com so I can keep going.

It's so much easier to design when I know what's going on behind the scenes online. The below video is a screen grab from my work so far !
